HCFC-123-induced toxic hepatitis and death at a Korean fire extinguisher manufacturing facility: a case series
Background Exposure to sustained high concentrations of HCFC-123 is known to be hepatotoxic. We report two simultaneous cases of toxic hepatitis related to exposure to 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HCFC-123), a common refrigerant, at a Korean fire extinguisher manufacturing facility. Case presentation Patients A and B were men aged 21 and 22 years, respectively, with no notable medical ...
متن کاملPrediction of toxic substances emission for occupational exposure assessment.
Methods for predicting organic solvents, chromic acid, mineral oil, styrene, and sulphuric acid emissions in painting, metal degreasing, wood preservation, chromium electroplating, turning, grinding, making glass fortified polyester laminates and lead batteries charging, injection moulding of polystyrene plastics, and making polyurethane foam processes are described. Experimentally introduced e...

2,2-Dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HCFC-123; CAS No. 306-83-2), a colorless light-ether-odor liquid with a boiling point of 27.6°C (at 1 Torr) and an ozone depletion potential of 0.02, is a substitute for a well-known ozone depleting substance trichlorofluoromethane (CFC-11) as a refrigerant, and 500 tons a year was shipped in Japan in 1996 according to the statistics surveyed by the Japan Flu...
متن کاملToxic hepatitis caused by the excretions of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog – a case report
The Kambô ritual consists of various types of skin scarification and subsequent application of Phyllomedusa bicolor secretion to the fresh wounds. In Europe, the ritual of Kambô is becoming more popular, but its use can lead to serious multiple organ damage, sometimes life-threatening. Our manuscript shows a patient with toxic liver damage probably associated with the Kambô ritual.

Four-Week Inhalation Toxicity Study of 2,2-Dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HCFC-123) in Guinea Pigs: Isamu KABE, et al. Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, School of Medicine, Keio University—Groups of eight male Hartley guinea pigs were exposed to 30, 100 or 300 ppm 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HCFC-123) by inhalation for 6 hours a day for 4 wk. All the animals were sac...
